RATRIX provides strategic consulting,
implementation capability, and investment capital to form start-up rating
agencies. The founders of RATRIX share
a conviction that the rating business model — successfully applied
by Moody’s, Standard & Poor’s , J.D.Power, Nielsen Media
and others — may be applied with equal success to other disciplines,
with a legitimate expectation of similar beneficial market and societal
impact and broad-based economic returns. As a consequence, the founders
created RATRIX to exploit new rating opportunities
in a variety of markets.
RATRIX targets markets that appear particularly
conducive to the establishment of comprehensive and profitable rating
systems. For example, RATRIX formed Rating
Research LLC (“RRC”), a joint venture between itself and
Opinion Research Corporation (“ORC”), to publish independent
ratings, analysis and opinion focused on the critical intangible assets
that create and sustain the reputations of major corporations. The reputational
industry appears fragmented, economically inefficient, and well-suited
to the introduction of a uniform standard and the discipline that such
a rating system necessarily imposes. In addition, a number of external
market forces are expected to underscore the existing lack of, and increase
demand from market participants for, the rating system and related services
offered by RRC. These forces include (i) recent regulatory changes in
standards of fair disclosure by reporting companies (i.e., the SEC’s
Regulation FD), (ii) changes in the method and speed of information
delivery and product differentiation stemming from the information revolution,
and (iii) an apparent increase in the potential for significant reputational
crises (e.g., the California Electric Utility debacle, Enron, Global
Crossing, Tyco). Coupling ORC’s strong capability in market research
with the qualitative capabilities of RRC’s analysts, RRC will
soon release additional rating services reporting on Corporate Ethics.
